In a ground breaking development for Fijian rugby league, the Rise Rookie Program, introduced in 2023, has emerged as a catalyst for nurturing young female talent and paving the way for international recognition.

The program, designed to provide elite pathways for girls aged between 16 and 18, has garnered attention from the NRL, propelling Fiji into the spotlight on the global stage.

One of the program’s notable achievements came in February of this year, as Fiji fielded a team to compete in the prestigious National Championship held at the Gold Coast.

Led by team manager, Ema Levaci, the Fijian contingent embarked on a journey that presented both opportunities and challenges.

Among the hurdles faced was the daunting task of assembling a competitive squad within a tight timeframe.

Additionally, ensuring the eligibility of young players from both the eastern and western regions posed a logistical challenge. However, these obstacles were met head-on with determination and resilience.
