Lautoka residents should expect an increase in the prices of fresh market produce because of a shortage in supply.
Market vendor Meena Shankar of Wairabetia said the prices of vegetables had increased because of the wet weather.
Ms Shankar, an egg vendor at the Lautoka market for the past 13 years, also said the situation had caused a shortage of vegetables.
“The price of cabbage is now $4, before it was $2 or $1. I sold vegetables before but decided to switch to eggs because they do not go bad easily,” she said.
“With vegetables, if we keep them for two to three days it goes bad.”
