THERE was not a dry eye among the crowd of parents that gathered at Marist Primary as they quietly watched the cortege of mourners bring the body of the six-year-old Malcom Makasiale to his school for the last time.

The year one student tragically died after a bus accident just outside his school last week.

Students and parents came out in numbers to hold a vigil for the young student who had just started primary school three weeks ago.

The procession yesterday included Malcom being taken to his Year 103 classroom to say good bye to his classmates before making his way to the school hall.

The school headteacher, Felix Magnus, said Malcom was a bright and energetic boy and full of life.

“The school priest, Father Finn said when he was finishing mass last week, Malcom was there to hold his hand. He will always remain a member of the Marist family. He has created history for the school being the first student to have passed away while a student here and today we want to celebrate and farewell him among the Marist community. The school is 140 years old. Malcom is part of that great history.”

Malcom was laid to rest on Saturday, February 9, 2019.
