Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander Major General Jone Kalouniwai says they will not be pressing charges against Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara for desertion.

In a statement issued yesterday, he said Roko Ului applied for his resignation of commission and discharge from the RFMF on March 29, 2011.

“This was approved by the Commander of the RFMF on the 31st of March 2011 and subsequently Gazetted on the 20th of May 2011,” the RFMF Commander said.

Maj-Gen General Kalouniwai said for those reasons, the allegation of desertion against Roko Ului had no basis and the RFMF would not be pressing charges against him for desertion.

“This effectively meant that Ratu Tevita was no longer a member of the RFMF, hence no longer subjected to Military Law from 31st March, 2011 onwards.”
