THE Rewa Football Club suffered another setback in their second match of the OFC Men’s Champions League, going down 0-1 against Tahiti’s AS Pirae in the Solomon Islands yesterday.
Pirae secured all three points thanks to Yohann Tihonis’ penalty kick in injury time when Gabrieli Matanasiga fouled an opponent inside the Rewa penalty box.
In a match spanning over 113 minutes due to a lengthy second-half injury stoppage, the result ensured Rewa’s elimination from the main competition.
AS Pirae, on the other hand, still have a chance at a semi-final appearance as they head into their final group match.
Adding to Rewa’s woes, Delon Shankar received a second yellow card and was dismissed for questioning the referee’s decision.
In their last group match, Rewa will face Auckland City, while AS Pirae will take on Tiga Sports as they aim for a spot in the semi-finals.
