The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji is to review Fiji’s maritime laws.

Authority CEO Joeli Cawaki told The Fiji Times a budget has been allocated for the review.

“The maritime industry has evolved over the years and its laws are becoming irrelevant,” Mr Cawaki said, adding that a private legal consultant would be engaged to conduct the review.

The three maritime laws are the: n Maritime Safety Act 2009; n Maritime Transport Act 2013; and n Ship Regulations Act 2013.
