Scared but determined and happy. This is how Lautoka Muslim Primary School Year 8 student Nikhat Nisha described her emotions during yesterday’s Pfizer vaccination program that was underway at Lautoka’s St Thomas Primary School.

“I want to continue with my studies and for that I have to get myself vaccinated,” said the 13-year-old.

Nisha said she wanted to get back to the classroom atmosphere to be with her friends and lead a normal teenage life just the way it was like before COVID-19 struck.

Her father, a resident of Koroipita- Model Towns Charitable Trust Community, Mohammed Feroz said vaccination meant her daughter returning to her school.

“For a long time, student’s have been at home and they need to go back to face-face learning where they will learn much more than from digital learning.”

Mr Feroz also said with Pfizer and Moderna vaccines being rolled out, the opening of schools was brought more closer and becoming more safer.

“Not every parent would have been able to afford smartphones or regular internet data bundles for their kids’ online studies and we are waiting for the school’s to open.”

He said the Koroipita Community has been a huge help for him and his daughter “and in my heart, I know this is the place from where my daughter will become successful because they allow underprivileged children to dream big and go along helping them to live that dream”.

Ministry of Health this week launched Pfi zer vaccination program for children aged 12 to 14 years.
