A return from church ended in tragedy for a 20-year-old man from Macuata who died following a road accident along Buca Bay in Cakaudrove on Sunday.
Maciu Lovoni of Wakanilato Settlement in Dogoru, Macuata, left home last week to visit his girlfriend at Vatudamu in Cakaudrove.
Little did the family know this would be the last time they saw him alive.
His aunt Tarusila Tagibau said Maciu and two others were walking back from church when they were picked up in a passing vehicle.
“He had gone to visit his girlfriend at Vatudamu and went to church at Nagigi with the girl’s two brothers,” she said.
Ms Tagibau said the family later received news of the accident from a close relative living in Savusavu.
“We were at church in Nakama when we heard about the accident, we immediately made our way to Savusavu.”
She said Maciu was then transferred to Labasa Hospital where he later died about 8pm.
Police confirmed the accident occurred around midday on Sunday and that three people remain admitted in critical condition at the Labasa Hospital.
