The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is working to restore regular water supply to residents in the Central Division’s elevated areas from Delainavesi to Veisari and the upper Tamavua to Colo-i-Suva corridor.

WAF chief operating officer Seru Soderberg said the recent continuous heavy rain had resulted in the increased discharge of silt and soil into the Waimanu River.

He said this discharge was causing heavy turbidity which presented pumping challenges for the Waimanu Raw Water Pumps and had impacted the treatment and production rate of the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant.

“The reduction in production levels at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant is currently affecting water supply to customers ranging from low pressure, intermittent to no water supply,” Mr Soderberg said.

WAF operations teams are working to rectify this by prioritising the replenishment of service reservoirs to desired levels to allow water supply to normalise.

“We are working to normalise water supply to our valued customers as soon as possible.”

Mr Soderberg said water supply restoration to affected areas would commence as soon as reservoir levels were healthy and weather permitting.

He apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their patience and understanding.
