FOSTERING the continued enhancement of the FIJI Water Flying Fijians as a side of exceptional capabilities is a must-do on the list of things to achieve for head coach Mick Byrne.
He spoke to the media in a post-match conference following their 17-52 loss to Ireland in their final Autumn Nations Test match on Sunday.
“Our job is to present ourselves over the next two years to earn the respect of World Rugby and we have to play a little bit better than we did today to get there,” Byrne stated.
Byrne alluded to their performance in the match, where they only managed to score two tries with successful conversions and a penalty made by fly-half Caleb Muntz.
Ireland on the other hand landed eight tries and were able to make 17 penalties.
Meanwhile, team skipper Waisea Nayacalevu was asked if it was difficult for Fiji to earn the respect of World Rugby and match officials, to which he said was not the case.
“I would say not really because we go out there and we give our best. We train all week and we are disciplined, we play the way we want to play and at the end of the day the match officials make the calls and sometimes it doesn’t go your way,” Nayacalevu said.
“It’s frustrating the moment it’s happening and if we can have that fair play call, then we can probably play more entertaining rugby and we get more momentum as well going into our game, playing what we want to play,” he said.
