A mangrove planting initiative was relaunched by Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort and Sheraton Denarau Villas last Thursday.

The activity is part of the Good Travel with Marriot Bonvoy program held at the Resort’s Denarau Golf Club.

In a statement the resort said the Marriott International Fiji Resorts’ Next Gen Business Council compromising of young, vibrant promising leaders, championed the initiative alongside senior hotel executive management leadership team and close to 144 associates also participated in this initiative where 427 mangrove saplings were planted.

It said the pioneering effort marked the first of three planned mangrove planting activations for the year, reinforcing the resorts’ commitment to sustainable environmental stewardship through collaboration between the mangrove rangers, the hotel sustainability committee, and strategic partners such as the Mamanuca Environment Society (MES) and FRIEND Fiji.

Marriott International and general manager Westin and Sheraton Resorts, Denarau Neeraj Chadha said the Denarau Golf Course was connected to running streams.

“It is in our best interest to ensure that we take care of the environment that envelops our vast playground, and this initiative pioneered by our next generation of leaders marks our commitment,” she said.

Marriott International Fiji Resorts’ next gen business council president Siumen Chung said sustainability was a pillar that has been marked by their committee to champion with their associates.

“And it has been gratifying to see most of the team use their lunch break to support this community project,” Ms Chung said.
