A MONTH-LONG cancer awareness campaign by Radisson Blu Resort Fiji has raised $8000 for the Fiji Cancer Society to support patients and their families.

The donation marked the conclusion of the resort’s Pinktober program, which ran throughout October, with the cheque presented to Fiji Cancer Society representative Vokili Ali by resort general manager Charles Homsy on November 2.

The campaign began with an awareness walk around Denarau Island, led by resort security officer and cancer survivor Merewatisoni Railou.

Mr Homsy said the initiative aimed to keep cancer awareness alive beyond October, particularly by educating employees about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

“Pinktober is about more than a month of pink. It is about keeping the conversation going all year round,” he said.

“Early detection saves lives, and we want our team to be informed and empowered.”

He acknowledged the Fiji Cancer Society for its work supporting cancer patients across the country.

Ms Ali expressed gratitude to the resort, its staff and guests, saying the contribution would help the society continue its support for patients and their families.

She said the awareness generated through the campaign was equally important in strengthening cancer advocacy.

The Pinktober initiative forms part of the resort’s Responsible Business program, which focuses on community contributions and employee wellbeing.
