International luxury property Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay has taken the lead initiative in addressing pressing environmental issues around the resort’s vicinity when it observed the World Wetlands Day on February 2.

Fiji Marriott Resort’s sustainability manager Mereoni Mataika said the annual event sought to shed light on the critical global concern of marine debris and underscore the significance of preserving and protecting the wetlands that surround the resort.

Activities undertaken by staff include a beach cleanup along the shorelines of Momi Bay, collecting a total of 28kg of litter.

“Sustainability is at the heart of our ethos, and World Wetlands Day provided us with a unique opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to environmental stewardship,” Ms Mataika said.

“Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay remains steadfast in its dedication to ongoing efforts in sustainability, with the support of associates, guests and the local community, taking a meaningful journey towards a greener and cleaner world.

“We also proudly announced our active participation in the global celebration of World Wetlands Day.”

Dedicated associates from the resort engaged in a meaningful activity to address the pressing issue of marine debris, emphasising the importance of collective responsibility.
