Unity Fiji leader Savenaca Narube has called for the resignation of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka after the defeat of the Constitution Amendment Bill 2025.

Mr Narube said “we have seen many blunders by this Government since it took office in December 2022.”

“But this one must take the prize. It is embarrassing,” he said.

“Before a government takes a critical motion like this constitution amendment motion to Parliament, it must ensure that it has the numbers.”

“But the Prime Minister had badly miscalculated.”

“As the Head of Government, the Prime Minister must shoulder the entire blame.”

“He has miscalculated the move. He must not try to shift the blame to someone else.”

Mr Narube added Mr Rabuka’s position is no longer tenable given the multiple government failures under his leadership.

“The defeat of the amendment motion in Parliament reconfirms what I have been saying all along that the only legal way to amend the imposed 2013 Constitution is to challenge its legal validity in a court of law.”
