Requests for church buildings will not be facilitated by Government, says Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
He reiterated this at Vunidogoloa Village after a request from the district rep Sailosi Ramatau.
Mr Ramatau, rep of Koroalau District, asked Mr Rabuka if they could be assisted with a church building as they had not built any since their relocation to the existing village site in Cakaudrove.
Mr Ramatau said if a church building was completed in any village, then God would also be seated in the house of worship.
However, Mr Rabuka said they could not cater for this request because if they did, other religious groups would make similar requests.
He told the villagers to attend to the church building. But Government would assist with the evacuation centre in villages.
He also urged villagers to take on a self-help attitude.
Mr Rabuka said Government was always keen to assist those who had started various projects out of their own initiatives.
When this happens, he said, Government could always step in to help.
