Families are feeling the pinch, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad, adding “we are listening, and we are taking action.”
He made the comments in Nadi on Friday while speaking at the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Business Forum.
He said the 2025–2026 budget would be grounded in efficiency, inclusivity, and results.
“Our 2025–2026 Budget will focus on delivery and efficiency of public services and, in partnership with the private sector, we’re building a resilient, inclusive, and prosperous Fiji,” he said.
“The time for spending to revive the economy is over. The government must now spend more carefully. The public must see value in the money we spend.”
He acknowledged there was high cost of living.
“Families are feeling the pinch. We are listening, and we are taking action.”
“Relief and support measures will be key features of the new budget.”
He also encouraged private sector investment, highlighting the government’s willingness to engage meaningfully with businesses.
“We are not here to make fancy announcements. We are here to work with you.”
