THE first-ever Child Protection Workshop for the Social Welfare sector officially began today at the Sofitel Resort and Spa in Nadi.
Organised by UNICEF Pacific, the workshop is attended by representatives and stakeholders from 12 regional countries, including Fiji.
The discussions were opened by the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation permanent secretary Jennifer Poole who highlighted the importance of such a meeting.
She said governments from the around the Pacific region must share best practices and learn to progress in this area of work and to strengthen child protection systems.
“This workshop will give us a chance to explore how we can better protect our children, both in terms of prevention and response, and to identify what is the best way forward for Pacific countries, while finding a balance between the respective roles of families, communities and the State,” Ms Poole said.
