REGIONAL ministers, climate researchers and green technology innovators gathered in Lautoka last week for a major regional forum tackling climate resilience across the Asia Pacific.
Hosted at the University of Fiji’s Saweni campus, the Symposium on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies aimed to bridge the critical gap between academic research and on-the-ground policy implementation.
Organisers emphasised that small island nations faced mounting pressures from rising sea levels and extreme weather, requiring immediate and collaborative interventions.
It was discussed the region held immense potential for innovative climate solutions through policy, technology, and community-led adaptation.
Delegates also comprised representatives from international finance institutions such as the Asian Development Bank.
Discussions were focused on scalable carbon reduction policies, traditional ecological knowledge, and sustainable resource management tailored specifically for vulnerable coastal and island communities.
