Fiji Link flights to Labasa are now flying on reduced weight after Fiji Airports Limited (FAL) imposed a runway weight restriction at Labasa Airport.
Only aircrafts with 19 tons weight are now allowed to land at the Waiqele airport due to the deteriorating runway surface, said Fiji Airways, the parent company of Fiji Link.
“As a result of this operational restriction, there will be a reduction of up to 45% in available seats on our ATR72 services to and from Labasa,” said the airline.
“This will unfortunately also impact our ability to meet current passenger and cargo demand.”
Fiji Airways states they have raised their concerns with both Fiji Airports Limited and the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji.
“We are committed to working closely with the relevant authorities and look forward to a remediation plan that will support the resumption of unconstrained ATR72 operations to Labasa in the near future.”
“Fiji Link remains fully compliant with all regulatory and safety requirements, and we sincerely regret any inconvenience caused.”
“These circumstances are beyond our control, but we assure our guests that we are doing everything possible to minimise disruptions and maintain safe, reliable service.”
