A real estate company has stepped forward to help a 13-year-old girl continue her fight to regain her eyesight, donating $5000 towards her second eye surgery in India.
Elite Realty Fiji presented the donation to Giya Geetanjali Prasad, who is scheduled to travel to India on September 5 for the next stage of her treatment.
Elite Realty director Shivanjani Iyer said the company believed in giving back to the communities it served and was pleased to support Giya and her family during a challenging time.
“At Elite Realty Fiji, we are committed to supporting the communities we serve across Fiji, not only through real estate but also through meaningful acts of compassion and care,” Ms Iyer said.
“As a Navua-based agency operating throughout the country, we are honoured to support Giya during her medical journey and hope this contribution helps ease some of the burden on her and her family.”
Ms Iyer said she understood the importance of access to medical treatment, having lived with Type 1 diabetes for more than two decades.
“Having lived with Type 1 diabetes for over 20 years, I understand the importance of access to medical treatment, and we look forward to seeing Giya make a full recovery and return to school to continue pursuing her dreams,” she said.
Giya’s mother, Evlin Ashika Devi of Caubati, Nasinu said the teenager’s condition had improved significantly following her first surgery on January 25 this year.
“There is a lot of improvement in her sight and condition,” Mrs Devi said.
“She is able to open her eyes and see now.
“We are regularly putting eye drops in her eyes as advised by the doctors in India.”
Mrs Devi said fundraising efforts for the second surgery had been slow, with the family raising only $2000 so far.
“Altogether we need $US3700.40.
“We also need to keep some extra money for expenses which may arise after the surgery.”
She appealed to members of the public to continue supporting her daughter’s treatment.
Those who wish to help Giya can deposit their contributions into Evlin Ashika Devi’s BSP account, number 87407367, or send their contribution via M-Paisa to Mrs Devi at 2721696.
