For the first time ever, Fijians, guests at the Nanuku Resort Fiji and students in the Navua-Pacific Harbour corridor will get to rub shoulders with real life astronauts from the United States National Aeronautics And Space Administration (NASA).
Nanuku’s ‘Journey to the Stars’ program will begin with ‘Lunch with an Astronaut’ today where Nanuku Resort guests will learn what it takes to be an astronaut with Dr Yvonne Cagle.
Dr Cagle is a retired US Air Force Colonel and one of six African American female astronauts.
Guests at the resort will also get to touch a space rock with Joe Minafra, the lead for Innovation and Technical Partnerships at NASA, and learn about meteorites and asteroids.
Nanuku guests will also get to explore the solar system and lunar landing sites with NASA Lead for Citizen Science and Community Development, Brian Day.
In 2007, he flew on the Aurigid-MAC mission to record fragments of comet Kiess entering Earth’s upper atmosphere.
The NASA astronauts will also visit Pacific Harbour Multi Cultural School, Lomary Primary School and Rampur Primary School, and share their experiences with the students there.
