THE Fiji Tae kwon do Association is excited to welcome Denzil Ray, the chairman of Oceania Tae Kwon do Union Kyorugi and development referee, to their learning program for students and coaches in Fiji.

Ray, who has traveled all the way from Australia, sees this as a valuable opportunity to share his knowledge and expertise with the athletes.

This initiative has been in the works for two years, and Ray is eager to impart the rules and skills necessary for the advancement of the participants.

Ray’s main goal for this program is to identify and train new coaches and referees.

“Basically, we are running this program to identify, new coaches and new referees, I like to see one or two here from Fiji to go on to that pathway, especially for the Pacific games in Tahiti, to use referees knowledge from other regions, and to go back to their clubs and teach them the knowledge that they have gained,” said Ray.

By building a strong foundation now, Ray believes these individuals can potentially compete in the Olympics up to 2032.

“I would love to see the athletes have the opportunity, also officials have the opportunity, to go develop to a help and funding from the Olympic community and Para association, to give them an opportunity to the next Olympics from now to 2032.

This vision extends not only to the athletes but also to officials, who can play a vital role in nurturing future talent.

The highlight of the program will be the Fiji Tae kwon do Presidents Cup competition taking place today.

With 80 athletes set to compete, this event will serve as a platform to showcase their skills and potential.

Ray is committed to providing guidance on new rules and techniques to ensure a successful and competitive event.

He adds the importance of providing opportunities for passionate youths to excel in Tae kwon do.

Fiji Tae kwon do Presidents Cup competition will be held at the Khatri Hall in Suva, at 8am.
