Swire Shipping Fijian Drua winger Selestino Ravutaumada is making a concerted effort to join the Fiji 7s rugby team for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Known for his dynamic play in 15s rugby, Ravuataumada is now focusing on adapting to the unique demands of 7s rugby.
“7s rugby is different and fitness -wise, I must get back to my peak. Hopefully I get to that fitness level before the Olympics,” he said.
Reflecting on a recent friendly match against Australia, Ravuataumada acknowledged the challenge.
“It’s a tough competition against Australia, they are very good team,” he added.
When asked why he chose 7s rugby over continuing with the Flying Fijians, Ravuataumada explained, “I just follow my heart. No offense to the 15s; I can play 15s, but I always want to play 7s.”
Confident in his abilities, Ravuataumada believes he still has what it takes to make the cut for the Olympic team. “Yes,” he affirmed when asked directly about his chances.
Acknowledging the high level of competition within the team, he said, “All the boys are talented and the competition within us is tough.”
Despite this he enjoys the friendly atmosphere in camp.
