Mikaele “High Voltage” Ravalaca once again proved why he remains one of Fiji’s top boxing prospects after defeating Kaliova Tahakia via third-round technical knockout in the main supporting bout of the Bluewater Boxing Promotion’s “Lawaqa Rumble” at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Saturday.

The Oceania WBA title holder entered the ring on Saturday night with confidence and delivered another dominant display, using his experience, movement and well-timed out combinations to slowly break down his opponent before finishing strongly in the third round.

Following the bout, Ravalaca shared that patience played out a major role in his approach throughout the fight as he focused on reading Tahakia’s movements before committing to his attacks.

“My tactic is to follow the opponent and give him some time,” Ravalaca said after the fight.

“My game plan is to be patient, wait for the right time. I wait for the right moment and give him some time before I cut the fight,” he said.

The strategy worked effectively as Ravalaca spent the opening rounds controlling the pace and carefully studying Tahakia inside the ring before increasing the pressure with sharp combination skills and cutting through the gaps that eventually led the referee to stop the contest in the third round.

“I wanted to show the crowd a good fight because they came to support the boxing,” he said.

His coach, Osea Nanovu, said the team is now fully focused on building Ravalaca towards bigger opportunities on the international stage following Saturday night’s victory.

“We are focusing on Mikaele Ravalaca now. We’re trying to get him up to the world stage,” Nanovu said.

“In July, he will feature in the King’s Boxing Promotion programme again, and we will also have a bigger fight planned this year. We’ll speak more about that after July 25.”

Ravalaca is expected to return to the ring on July 25 under the King’s Boxing Promotion banner, where he hopes to successfully defend his title and continue building momentum against stronger opponents.
