THE importance of holding local government elections was highlighted by Social Democratic Liberal Party 2018 General Election candidate, Adi Meretui Ratunabuabua during a rally in Nadi last week.

“There have been no elections for local government,” she said while addressing more than 300 people at Nasereci Church hall on Monday.

“And we want to have fair and transparent selection processes. “And the reason we want to do this is because in Levuka, which is Fiji’s first world heritage site – whoever takes on that position – Levuka is so different to any other local government.”

Adi Meretui said there should be a heritage expert and we were fortunate to have an Australian heritage expert, Chris Richards with us.
