Ratu Inoke meets Georgian counterpart; Ministers discuss defence industry

FIJI’S Minister for Defence and National Security Ratu Inoke Kubuabola met his Georgian counterpart Levan Izoria in Tbilisi.

Ratu Inoke was accorded with an official welcome ceremony, including full military honours.

A Government statement said the two ministers had bilateral discussions focused on military education, sports, sharing of information and experience, and the defence industry.

According to the statement, a Defence Memorandum of Understanding is being agreed on to formalise cooperation to further strengthen defence ties with Georgia.

Ratu Inoke and his delegation also visited the National Defence Academy of Georgia, located in the city of Gori, and met the Commandant Colonel Zaza Japaridze where the academy’s organisational structure, curriculum and potential areas of collaboration were discussed at length.

The minister also visited the Administrative Border Line near the Khurvaleti village under heavy guard.
