Bau chief Ratu Epenisa Cakobau will call 10 to 12 witnesses in his upcoming civil trial against three defendants.

The Kubuna chief is taking legal action against the Commander RFMF, the Police Commissioner and the Office of the Attorney-General for his June 7, 2018, arrest.

Ratu Epenisa had sought a declaration from the court that he was unlawfully arrested and detained by the army and police for 30 hours, as well as general damages, including aggravated and exemplary damages for wrongful and unlawful detention.

He is also seeking general damages for breach of his constitutional rights.

His lawyer, Gavin O’Driscoll, informed the Acting Master of the High Court Liyanage Kashyapa Wickramasekara that all procedural orders have been complied with.

The RFMF will be calling two witnesses, while the A-G’s Office and the Commissioner of Police will call three.

The parties have agreed to have a one-week trial.
