Former parliamentarian Simione Rasova has been granted permission to travel to Australia to attend the Liberal Party’s Campaign Summer School and International Programme, despite strong objections from the prosecution.
Mr Rasova will travel to Canberra from today, January 27, to February 4.
He is travelling in his capacity as the General Secretary of SODELPA.
“The public interest was and can be continually protected by strict bail conditions, noting that the accused is still innocent until proven guilty per our Constitution,” Magistrate Pulekeria Low said.
Mr Rasova is accused of falsely stating his permanent place of residence and allegedly collecting $21,350 in allowances between July 2019 and April 2020, which prosecutors say he was not entitled to receive.
His substantive matter is scheduled to be called on February 9.
