Big prop Joen Veitayaki stepped to the left and gave a goose step to score the seventh try for Fiji in yesterday’s dramatic 51-26 victory at the National Stadium.
Veitayaki’s try was the icing on the cake for the national side which beat Scotland for the first time.
Scotland started the scoring when fullback Derrick Lee kicked a penalty one minute into the game and Scotland led 3-0 after Apisai Naevo penalised for obstruction.
Here is how the rest of the game went.
2nd minute – Lee penalty after Veitayaki caught handling the ruck 6-0 Scotland.
5th – Nicky Little penalty after Scotland offside, 6-3.
8th minute- Lee penalty 9-3.
15th minute – Crowd booed as Fero Lasagavibau was tugged from behind by Hugh Gilmour and lost a sure try.
28th minute – Lee penalty, 12-8 Scotland.
34th minute – Nadroga combination struck when Jonetani Waqa punched through a gap from a weak Fiji backline move and Aisea Tuilevu finished off with a corner try. Fiji in the lead for the first 13-12 and half -time.
Second half.
2nd – Naevo caught Scotland napping when he sneaked around the front from a lineout won by Simon Raiwalui in Scotland’s 22 metre and dashed for the corner to score, Fiji 20-12.
25th – Fero raced away on the blind, side stepped Lee and angled for the corner for his second try. Serevi converted, 37-19 Fiji.
34th minute – Fero hat trick after he scooped up a dropped pass and raced 50 metres to score. Serevi converted, 44-19 Fiji.
37th minute- Hooker Gordon Bulloch try after a series of strong forward drives. lee converted 44-26.
40th minute- Fiji opened up, looking for the coup de grace, moving the ball from one side to the other until Veitayaki celebrated his try. Serevi converted and Fiji won 51-26.
