The recent spate of heavy rain has exposed significant leaks in the Labasa fish market, causing disruptions to the vendors’ business.

Labasa Town Council special administrator Samuela Ligairi said he had raised the issue with the foreman responsible for the market’s upkeep after receiving complaints from vendors.

“We understand the concerns of our vendors,” Mr Ligairi said.

“I have discussed the leaks with our maintenance team.”

Responding to queries from this newspaper, Mr Ligairi assured the vendors they were taking the issue seriously.

“We know that heavy rains are becoming more frequent.

“It’s important for us to look at sustainable solutions that will prevent this from happening in the future.”

Mr Ligairi said they were prioritising this issue.

“Our goal is to ensure the market is safe for everyone,” he added.

Repairs to the leaking roof is expected to be completed by Saturday.
