Lawyer Sainiana Radrodro has handed in her resignation as SODELPA National Women’s Forum secretary during the forum’s annual general meeting in Suva yesterday citing work commitments.
The meeting was attended by SODELPA leader Viliame Gavoka, forum vice-president Mere Samisoni and members from all party constituencies.
When questioned on whether she planned to join another political party, Ms Radrodro said: “No comment”.
“I have resigned due to work commitments,” she said.
She said the role was tough and took a lot of dedication and commitment.
SODELPA MP and former party leader Ro Teimumu Kepa urged women members to stand in the next general election.
She said the international benchmark for women membership in Parliament was 30 per cent.
“Fifty per cent of voters are women,” Ro Teimumu said.
“At the moment, we have only 18 per cent women representation after Lynda Tabuya and Mereseini Vuniwaqa’s resignation.
“But as women, we can do it and we try to aim for 30 per cent participation.
“I know it is not easy being a politician but if you have the will, you can do it.”
