Radcliffe envied his fellow actors

Daniel Radcliffe has admitted he was envious of the other actors during Harry Potter.

The 24-year-old star — who played the lead role in the eight-part blockbuster series — enjoyed his time playing the boy wizard but became keen to start new projects towards the end of the franchise.

He said: “Obviously there’s a part of me that… I think it is connected to Potter, but maybe not in the way that everyone thinks, where everyone kind of just thinks, ‘Oh, he’s doing all this to put that behind him and get away from it.

“And actually, I think what it is more is that because I played one character for such a long time, and particularly towards the end of that 10 year period I started seeing like other British actors, you know, Aaron Johnson and Eddie Redmayne, Ben Whishaw and lots of people I sort of look up to, who go off and do loads of different projects and try lots of different things and I think it’s sort of, you know, there’s a little bit of envy and it sort of builds up inside yourself — that desire to just try as many different things as possible.

“So yeah, I guess now that I’m in a position that I can do that … I’m trying to while the going’s good.”

Daniel — who is due to star in the next series of A Young Doctor’s Notebook and Other Stories alongside Jon Hamm — has nothing but praise for his co-star.

Speaking via satellite at the Television Critics Association Summer Tour in Beverly Hills, he said: “On a whole, this series is an incredibly fun one to film. Jon is a very funny guy, and sort of very irreverent and we have a lot of fun.
