The People’s Alliance party leader Sitiveni Rabuka has supported analysis by award-winning political sociologist and global interdisciplinary scholar Professor Steven Ratuva on political parties forming government.

Prof Ratuva told this newspaper that all big political parties in the 2022 General Election would not be able to form government alone.

Basing his analysis on polls over the past 12 months, Mr Ratuva said the FijiFirst party and The People’s Alliance-National Federation Party coalition would struggle to win.

In response, Mr Rabuka said Prof Ratuva had made a very good assessment of the current situation, and he acknowledged the wisdom of entering into coalitions to prevent the dissipation of opposition votes by smaller political parties.

“Additionally, it ought to be said that the registration of new political parties will make it tougher for everyone in the race, but The People’s Alliance believes in the indomitable will and wisdom of the people of Fiji to unite and make the right choice for all future generations by voting in a more responsible and caring government into the seats of the leadership of the nation,” Mr Rabuka said.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry said the party was doing well in its campaign.

“We do not attach much significance to academic opinions,” Mr Chaudhry said.

“People want a change for the better and they want a responsible and an accountable government.”

He said the record of the leaders would play an important part in the voter’s choice of the party they would support.
