Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is not for the suggestion of ‘death penalty’ for those involved in drug problems.
Mr Rabuka, posted in his social media page that one of the main concerns with the death penalty was its irreversible nature.
Unlike his Minister for Women Lynda Tabuya who suggested for death penalty for drug traffickers, Mr Rabuka said while the death penalty has been suggested as a deterrent, he believes it was not the answer to our drug problems.
“Around the world, there have been cases where, years after an execution, new evidence has emerged that could have changed the outcome.
“We must be careful and consider the broader implications of such irreversible decisions.”
