FRESH from a strong third-place finish at the Savusavu Zone, Rabi High School is determined to maintain their impressive form at the Coca-Cola Games.

The island school has brought a resolute squad, confident of making an impact against the nation’s leading athletics powerhouses.

Head coach Solomi Qisavola, a multiple gold medallist in discus and shot put at the Games during his tenure with Marist Brothers High School, says the foundation has been firmly established.

“The team has prepared well. We are looking forward to the competition starting tomorrow. We know we are ready and we are here to make our mark,” Qisavola said.

Rabi High’s performance in the zone competition caught attention, particularly in the field events where they set several new records in shot put and discus.

However their standout moments was delivered by intermediate girls’ middle-distance runner Laura Tuitoga, who secured the school’s first gold medal in a track event at the zone competition by winning the 1500 metres.

While the results have boosted morale, the journey to Suva has not been without its challenges.

Travel costs from the island remain a significant obstacle, with limited financial resources placing considerable pressure on the team.

“The main struggle is our finance. The expenses travelling across from the island to the mainland, coming over to Suva. Also, some of our students, this is the first time for them to come to Suva, which is a big step for them,” he explained.

Despite the hurdles, Qisavola believes his athletes are mentally prepared for the occasion.

“The main thing is self-belief. We know where we stand, and we just want them to give their best,” he said.

With nothing to lose and everything to prove, Rabi High School is shaping up to be one of the teams to watch at the three-day meet—quietly confident and ready to defy expectations.
