QUEEN Victoria School is keeping things simple and focused ahead of their crucial Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League under-19 semi-final showdown against Ba Pro Dragons this Saturday at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
School principal Waliki Nasau told Times Sport the QVS Knights are taking a low-profile approach in their preparation, with attention given to the strengths of their opponents particularly Dragons backline.
“We know their strength lies in the backline, so our preparation has been centred around that,” Nasau said.
Nasau highlighted that their game plan will revolve around using their big forwards to absorb pressure and create opportunities.
“We’ll look to use our big forwards by committing at least three tacklers before unloading the ball. That’s where we believe we can create an advantage.”
Despite the high stakes, Nasau said the team understood the magnitude of the semifinal and what was required to perform.
“It’s a do-or-die match, and the boys know what is expected of them. This will be a completely different ball game compared to previous matches.”
The QVS head also acknowledged the challenge of playing in Ba’s home territory, describing it as the heartland of rugby league in Fiji, but remained confident in his side’s ability to rise to the occasion.
“We respect Ba Pro Dragons, especially playing on their home ground, which has a strong rugby league history. But we’ll let our performance do the talking on the field.”
With a spot in the final on the line, all eyes will be on QVS Knights aim to make a strong statement against a formidable Ba Pro Dragons side.
Nasau also called on supporters in the western division to come out in numbers, as the Knights make their first appearance in the West this season.
“This is our first outing in the West in 2026, and we’re inviting supporters to come and cheer for the boys. We’re prepared to show the westerners what we have.”
QVS Knights will play Ba Pro Dragons in the last U19 semi-final at 2.10pm.
