Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua has taken to social media to express frustration over recent national issues, including the proposed waste-to-energy project and a death in custody.

While there is no reference in the post, it is understood Ms Qereqeretabua referred to the death of Jone Vakarisi while in military custody.

“My heart is broken for Fiji and I am sick of this,” she wrote.

“NO to trash from Australia, and hell NO to deaths in custody.”

Ms Qereqeretabua called for accountability and transparency, saying, “Fiji deserves better. And our people deserve the truth.”

She added that the country must move beyond repeated tragedies.

“Enough is enough. We cannot be in perpetual mourning.”
