Netball Fiji says it aims to lift the profile of men’s netball by putting in place steps to have a national team compete at the international level.

Netball Fiji chief executive officer Vivian Koster said there was a lot of interest and talent shown to augur for a men’s team to compete against top nations.

She made the comment as the two-day Punjas Fiji Men’s Netball Championship concluded at the Vodafone Arena in Laucala Bay, Suva.

A total of eight teams from Suva, Nadroga, Nadi, Nasinu and Tailevu competed in the tournament.

“This championship has drawn a lot of interest from our male athletes to a point that we need to make sure they compete to the highest level,” she said.

“We hope to offer our male athletes a regular competition and look at having international competition.

“We need to prepare our men to play top teams like New Zealand and Australia and the absolute goal is the 2032 Summer Olympics in Brisbane where the hope is that we qualify in the Olympics. And in order to achieve that, there is a need for a men’s team and Fiji is putting its hands up.

“This kind of championship will allow male athletes to showcase their talents.”
