Members of the public are being warned to ignore and block messages from a mobile number impersonating the Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, and requesting sponsorship assistance.

The number in question, 836 9719, has been circulating on Viber, with messages falsely claiming to be from the Police Commissioner and seeking funding support for various small-scale projects.

Police confirmed that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched an investigation into the scam. Authorities have classified the messages as fraudulent and urged recipients to report any contact immediately.

“This is a scam,” Police said.

“We are urging the public to remain vigilant and to refrain from sharing personal or financial information through messaging platforms, especially when approached by individuals claiming to represent officials from either the public or private sector.”
