Members of the public are urged to exercise restraint and refrain from swimming in and crossing flooded rivers as the wet weather continues.
A statement from police Chief Operations Officer (COO) Acting Assistant Commissioner A/ACP Livai Driu stated officers were on standby to assist those impacted by flash flooding.
However, members of the public were also urged to be proactive in light of the present weather situation.
“Those living in low-lying and known flood-prone areas are advised to keep monitoring the weather situation and advisories and take necessary precautionary measures,” a/ACP Driu said.
“Those living near rivers and creeks are to remain vigilant and keep a close watch over their children. Members of the public are advised to refrain from swimming in swollen rivers and crossing flooded roads.”
In light of the deteriorating conditions, community policing officers would also visit residents living near flood-prone areas to advise residents of necessary safety measures.
“Motorists are to adopt safe driving practices to avoid accidents as visibility will be limited and roads conditions will be a safety threat.”
He said everyone should heed to weather advisories as complacency would lead to injury or loss of life.
