Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a brawl that occurred near the Nadi bus station last weekend.
It is understood a carnival had been taking place at the Koroivolu Park beside the Nadi bus station.
A short video of the incident is circulating on social media where a woman alleges that some men in the brawl were carrying pipes and pieces of timber.
Acting Commissioner of Police Livai Driu confirmed receiving a report of the incident.
“There was an alleged brawl at the Nadi bus stand,” Mr Driu said.
“The Hope Carnival was closed and people were returning to their various homes and also looking for transport.
“Some youths were swearing at each other and running around the Nadi bus stand.”
Mr Driu said police had attended to the incident.
“Some youths were picked by the patrol team and later released. This eased the commotion and youths started to disperse. No report was lodged.”
Nadi Board of Special Administrators chairperson Saliceni Raiwalui said the incident depicted a negative picture of the town.
“It does not give a good image of Nadi and we do not promote such incidents,” he said.
Mr Raiwalui said the board had yet to receive an official report on the incident, however, necessary measures would be taken to ensure it would not be repeated.
