MEMBERS of the public have been advised to renew their green voter cards or voter card 1.0 following its expiry as announced by the Fiji Elections Office.
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said the card was issued to members of the public from 2012 until 2016 when a new version of the voter card was issued.
Mr Saneem said his office would now capitalise on this opportunity and get updated details of the voter in their system.
“Those who had registered in 2012 or 2013 and still have the green voter card will also be updating their picture as we would like to go into the next election with more current photos of the voter,” he said.
“The new version of the voter card will have the address of the voter as well as the polling venue details of the voter printed on the voter card.
“This will remove confusions about the voting venue as well as lessen the need for the SMS facility that we provide for voters to check their venue closer to elections.
“We also understand that it is quite early to phase the cards off, but we are dealing with approximately 400,000 voters who may still be carrying the old voter card.”
