Update: 7:35PM AT 91 years old, Paulini Vakagalui was probably the proudest person in the room after she witnessed her grandson Josua Raluve receive the Best All Round Award after graduating from the Forest Management program in Suva.
Mrs Vakagalui said she was proud that her upbringing had reaped its rewards as she always believed her grandson would achieve great things.
She said she always nurtured and encouraged all her grandchildren to always put God first in everything they did.
And Mr Raluve did not take his grandmother’s advice lightly because he believed it was through his faith in God and family’s support that enabled him to achieve the award.
“My grandmother brought me up since birth and encouraged me to do my best in everything I do and to always have God in my thoughts,” he said.
“I always have to pray every day so that I can begin the day well and if I don’t pray in the morning, then I would feel guilty the whole day.
“Looking back at the two years of hard work and sacrifice, it has definitely paid off.”
