In a commitment to environment stewardship, Castaway Island Fiji Resort officially launched its Counting Coral’s Sculptural Coral Gene Bank last week.
Officiating at the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka said the island was a place where natural beauty met community action.
“We gather not only to unveil a sculpture, but to celebrate a defining moment for Fiji,” he said.
“This isn’t just a conservation project. It’s a declaration.
“A promise that we will protect what matters most — not only because we must, but because it’s who we are.”
Mr Gavoka credited the staff of Castaway Island, Counting Coral, Outrigger and Tourism Fiji for the success of the project which was completed this month.
“You’ve turned vision into reality.
“Your work reflects the spirit of solesolevaki — the Fijian tradition of collective action that continues to shape our path forward.”
The Sculptural Coral Gene Bank is a partnership between the resort and US non-profit organisation Counting Coral.
