THE expiry of the contract for the Keiyasi New Town Development Project in Navosa has been raised with the Government Tender Board, says Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa.
In an interview with this newspaper in Nadi, Mr Nalumisa said he visited the project site last week and met the contractor to discuss the outstanding issues.
He said the issue was being addressed while work continued on the project, which aims to transform the rural agricultural hub into a modern town.
“We have some issues with the expiry of the contract, but it is something that we have also raised with the Government Tender Board,” he said.
“So, we are working on it now.
“We are also waiting for payments from the Attorney-General’s Office relating to the contract.
“As we speak, work is continuing. We hope to complete the project with whatever funding we have been given.”
The project’s groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka in February, 2024.
Phase one was initially scheduled for completion within 18 months, around August to October 2025. However, updated parliamentary information from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government indicated that civil works were expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
