The local film industry is expected to benefit from a recent development program launched by Film Fiji which is expected to help local scriptwriters and film producers.
The initiative is part of Film Fiji’s bid to support the development of a local audio-visual industry capable of portraying unique voices on the screen, while also creating new career and business opportunities in the audio-visual sector.
With this purpose, Film Fiji created the Fiji Script Development Program (FSDP) and the Fiji Producers Accelerator Program (FPAP) through support from the ACP-EU Programme (Pacific) facilitated by The Pacific Community (SPC).
Film Fiji intends to support up to 20 local scriptwriters and 40 film producers. The programs will assist their projects by steering them through four-month industry-specific development programs this year.
“We are tremendously excited about these two innovative programs that will support local filmmakers in Fiji. The programs will help scriptwriters perfect their projects, while also bringing in required skills and network opportunities for local film producers, so that they learn how to present their projects to overseas markets and co-produce internationally,” said Film Fiji CEO, Ramiro Tenorio.
He said Film Fiji was proud to help strengthen the people’s voices through storytelling, and it was eager to help these initiatives off the ground.
Communications Minister Manoa Kamikamica said the ministry was pleased to support such initiatives as they provided an opportunity for scriptwriters and film producers to elevate their skills on national and international platforms.
“We see these programs as extremely beneficial, not only for Fiji’s audio-visual industry, but also in creating and maintaining revenue streams for local artists and their families,” he said.
“We encourage all aspiring scriptwriters and film producers to take advantage of these opportunities and apply for the available programs.”
