THE first 20 runners who crossed the finish line during the Sports World fun run yesterday received prizes rewarding them for their commitment in covering the seven kilometre race.
The fun run featured 420 runners with Sports World giving away Puma branded canvas shoes and bags and other items including food processors and food blenders to the first 20 runners as well as lucky dip prizes.
Members of the public arrived as early as 6am to register for the fun run, starting at the old gymnasium, along the Laucala Bay Rd, on to Ratu Sukuna Rd, then down Vuya Rd, covering parts of Queen Elizabeth Drive, and back to starting point.
The fun run is part of the Hibiscus Events Group and is one way of encouraging members of the public to maintain fitness and keep a healthy lifestyle.
Program co-ordinator Puamau Bogiono said the fun run was a success and thanked all the participants for coming out in numbers to support the event.
“This is the ninth year we’re having this event and this year comparing the numbers with last year’s figures, there is increase participation which is very good,” Bogiono said.
“We’re thankful to the sponsors FMF for giving our runners breakfast, Island Chill for providing water to the participants and all the other sponsors that came on board. Thank you so much for your continuous commitment.”
