MORE golfing icons are expected to grace the inaugural Fiji International at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course next month.

The revelation was made following the confirmation of three-time major champion Nick Price who will be heading to Fiji to contest the inaugural Fiji International.

The Zimbabwean joins Fiji’s golf sensation Vijay Singh and Marika Batibasaga as the international players for the event.

Natalie Ritter, the general manager PGA Fiji International said more golfing stars and emerging international players would be part of the event.

“They’re certainly some more golf stars and some emerging players who are playing around the world at the moment that we’re talking to and we’ll confirm that in the next week or two,” she said.

Ritter said the presence of Price, a prolific golfer, former world number one who had won 50 professional tournaments would add another star to the event.

Brian Thorburn, the chief executive officer of the PGA of Australia, said Price’s presence would ensure the tournament success.

“It is an honour to have Nick Price compete in the inaugural Fiji International, he is an icon of the game around the world,” said Thorburn.

“To have a player of his calibre lining up will help ensure the tournament’s success but will also provide sports fans in Fiji the opportunity to see another legend of the game in action.”

Price said he was eager to be part of the event.

“I am looking forward to competing in the Fiji International,” he said.

“I hear the Natadola Bay course is well designed by Vijay and will provide a fitting challenge.

I have also heard a lot about the beauty of Fiji and the hospitality of its people so while I will be aiming to compete on the course I also look forward to exploring the island.”

The event tees off on August 14-17.
