FOLLOWING a report from the Water Authority of Fiji on Saturday that water pressure in Lami/Delainavesi and Veisari Togalevu remained low and might worsen, it yesterday confirmed that pressure has increased.
And WAF will resume its schedule of alternate water delivery to affected areas in Lami/Delainavesi and Veisari/Togalevu.
In a statement issued by the authority yesterday afternoon, CEO Opetaia Ravai said engineers managed to increase pressure, allowing for the alternate water delivery services to resume.
“65 per cent of the 25,000 people from 5,100 homes in selected areas in Suva are receiving water through their taps until 10 pm tonight (last night),” he said.
“Carted water is being delivered to the remaining 35 per cent over the same period. Those households designated for alternate water delivery are the Lami/Delainavesi and Veisari/Togalevu.”
Mr Ravai explained that on days where residents do not receive water from their taps, they could expect to receive water through water carts.
“Because of the effect the drought is having on the water supply, it has made it difficult to predict how long the tap water in these areas will last.
“Presently, we have dropped more than 30 per cent in the catchment areas which is a significant loss that is especially affecting the 5,100 homes in the Lami/Delainavesi and Veisari/Togalevu areas.”
