President commissions new UK High Commissioner

The country’s newly-appointed High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Jovilisi Vulailai Suveinakama, was officially commissioned by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere at the State House on Thursday.

Prior to his appointment, Mr Suveinakama was a consultant lawyer at Toganivalu Legal where he provided commercial advice to clients both in Fiji and abroad.

He obtained his Bachelor of Laws and his Institute of Professional Legal Studies from the University of Waikato in New Zealand.

He has been admitted to practice law in New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa and Tokelau.

In 2001, he worked as an associate at Howards Law, one of the larger law firms in Fiji, and was later awarded the MS Lin Award to New Delhi in 2003 as “a promising indigenous young commercial lawyer”.

Mr Suveinakama worked in Samoa as chief policy and strategic adviser to the government of Tokelau from 2010-2017.

Present at the commissioning ceremony was the permanent secretary for Foreign Affairs Lesikimacuata Korovavala.
